Dear Mark,

Firstly, just a note on the personal level, you would of looked more of a man if you had chosen to call me aside and discuss this issue with me.  Instead you chose the public domain of the Tango Synergy's mailing address to voice your opinions of me.  Were you hoping for the majority to jump on the bandwagon for a "public stoning"?  Trust me, in my life time, because of the road I chose to take ie, being gay; I grew up being accustomed to this public stoning.  So apart from the initial disbelief I quickly discarded it as I have learned to do so many times before.  That's what makes us the resilient men we are.

Secondly, Tango Synergy's aim.  A group of people decided one day to create a social group which will hold milongas for all walks of life.  How can I put this any better than the very country you live in.  Australia is a land of multiculturalism.  Where people from all countries, all colours and all languages are living together on the one stretch of land.  Yes I'm not denying there haven't been hiccups, but this is how people learn to co-exist in harmony.  We need to learn to give and take and accept others and their own beliefs.  Tango Synergy's aim is the same.  To unite all tangoist who like Old Traditional, Traditional and of course Nuevo music to dance together under the one roof.  This is a positive aspect as it gives us a vast range of music to choose from.  Being a DJ is not just about playing a group of songs you like.  It's actually quite a talented profession.  Do you think that the job of a DJ is just to play their own favourite tunes?  No it isn't.  A DJ is always looking at the crowd and seeing their reactions to the songs they play.  They need to be aware at all times and be adaptive.  And don't forget, the crowd can change also.  One night the crowd could favour one style and the next the crowd could be totally different.  That's why a DJ needs to "listen" to the crowd, to read the vibe, in order to be successful.  They also need to learn to not just throw their hands in the air if the crowd responds in the way they hadn't expected.  Do you think that all the great DJ's in the world gave up because of one bad night?  They've had lots of bad nights to get where they are.  But that's how they learn what works and what doesn't.  Just like all other professions, those who learn the hard road lessons make the better leaders.  

Now Mark, we know you've been travelling all around the world tangoing, so you've already got a head start and people do like your style of music, however, now there is a diverse crowd as this is part of what Tango Synergy is all about.  So don't let it get to you, because, through learning how to read and listen to your audience, you can do better next time.  At the end of the day what counts is that people go home exhausted from having a great time tangoing.

As a side note, I think one of our pitfalls is ipods.  As the playlist is prepared beforehand it limits our flexibility.  So there's a light already shining, Mr Marys actually has proper DJ decks.  They're not that difficult to use if you're not concerned with the mixing component form one song to another.  If not, then how about using a notebook as this can allow you more flexibility than an ipod.  Not having all the songs that people request is not the issue either, if you're ready for it next time.....  That of course will be my pitfall, as I haven't been in this area of dance as long as you so I do not have the range of tango music.   But should I let that stop me or should I ask around and gather people ideas on what to get.....

So anyway Mark, at the end of the day it's all about Tango Synergy's aim of bringing all tangoists under one roof and enjoying the spirit of tango together, so, can we put this behind us and move on?  Your DJ contribution to Tango Synergy is still valued.

I have volunteered to DJ as a fill-in on more than one occasion at MrMary's.  On account of interference from the individual known as Blinky I want everyone to know that I will no longer DJ for Synergy at this venue.

We began our AGM last week, however only got through the first 2 agenda items. We decided that 1 hour was simply not enough and will therefore be scheduling in a time where we can complete the meeting and post the minutes. 

ROSTER - DJ and Open/Close

One item we did get to was that we need a DJ Roster! So I need a call to arms to man the music.

Even if you can only provide 1 hour of music, you will be welcome with open arms.

We want to post the Roster on the Website, so people can see when their favourite DJ's are on and will also ensure that we constantly get new playlists to dance to. We need you for: 

1st Wednesday of the month - Jacana

2nd Wednesday of the month - MrMarys

3rd Wednesday of the month - MrMarys

4th Wednesday of the month - MrMarys

5th Wednesday of the month - MrMarys

Please volunteer to keep your tango community organization going.

$5 entry or free with purchase of dinner.

Jacana Restaurant next week

The Jacana Restaurant on the first Wednesday of the month will be our more traditional milonga with DJ'ing by Yoshi. Please join us at this friendly restaurant in North Sydney. 

7:30pm - 9:30pm           $15 including a main meal

After 9:30pm                  $10 which includes dessert/glass of wine/coffee
