Last week?s Synergy milonga ? Sydney?s last milonga for 2009 ? was a huge favourite with the many local and visiting dancers who attended. This week, to start the new year, an old favourite DJ Yoshi is back on the decks. Tuesday 5 January, 8-11.30pm. Join us to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, and the Italian food, wine and coffee at Farsaci Restaurant, 198 - 200 Norton Street, Leichhardt. Offering a large wooden floor, plenty of seating, a quality sound system, and tasteful decoration for the season. Parking is easy and the 440 bus stops right at the door. Milonga and workshop are free with a meal, otherwise $5 for members or $8 for non-members of Tango Synergy. It?ll also be the final opportunity to collect any lost property from the past year, including a red cardigan, ladies? sandals, and other items. Anything not collected this week will be donated to charity. Contact us if you think you?ve lost something. As you know, Tango Synergy is an association ? and we?re nearly due for our Annual General Meeting! It?ll happen on Tuesday January 26th (Australia Day public holiday) at Farsaci Restaurant from 6.30pm, and all Synergy members are welcome to attend and vote. At the AGM, we?ll hear reports from all the office bearers including financial reports, and we?ll vote in a new committee to steer Synergy through 2010. Please contact us if you?d like to nominate yourself or anyone else for a role, or have any items to put on the agenda. For the first time in Sydney, Daniel Tuero from Buenos Aires, accompanied by Aja Fenn from UK / USA. Daniel Tuero belongs to the new generation of Argentinian tango dancers and teachers who understands Tango from a different point of view. Dani considers natural and comfortable movements to be essential in enjoying the dance and to feel the connection with one's partner and the music. Technique and mechanics are important when we dance, and he has a thorough understanding of these; but so is our interpretation of the music. Dani's main education is based on the teachings at El Motivo Tango with Luciana Valle, Dina Martinez and Valencia Batiuk. Some of the master teachers who taught and inspired him for the last 10 years are Gustavo Naveira, Mariano Chicho Frumboli, Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes. Most recently in Buenos Aires, Dani taught at Tango Brujo; for the past year he has been touring and teaching in Europe, refining his clear, structured and approachable teaching style that has something to offer for dancers of all levels and styles. Find out more about him on his website, http://www.danieltuero.com.ar/ which also has links to several performance videos. Originally from the UK, Aja - Dani's partner for this tour - received her foundational training as a tanguera during 1.5 years of nightly dancing in the traditional milongas of Buenos Aires. Aja believes that dancing tango is about creating a physical manifestation of the music. In her teaching she emphasizes the importance of self exposure and courage in bringing who we are to our dancing. Her recent teaching focus has been on women?s leading and men?s following, in order to awaken people to a holistic understanding of the dance. Aja?s teachers and greatest influences include Eugenia Parilla, Evren Sayin, Gaston Torelli, Mariela Sametband, Moira Castellano, Matias Facio and Cecilia Conzales. She owes a great deal to her ex-husband, Pablo Tapia, who taught her how to lead. Dani and Aja will be in Sydney from 18-28 February, teaching a variety of workshops. Details will be announced shortly... watch this space and start getting excited! Meanwhile, look out for announcements very soon about the special things we have planned for Sydney?s tango community in 2010! > > Happy dancing, > Rachel > > On behalf of Tango Synergy Inc > http://www.tangosynergy.org > dance at tangosynergy.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This week, our good friend Jean Weiner has again prepared a special playlist just for us! Tuesday 19 January, 8-11.30pm. Join us to enjoy the friendly atmosphere, and the Italian food, wine and coffee at Farsaci Restaurant, 198 - 200 Norton Street, Leichhardt. Milonga and workshop are free with a meal, otherwise $5 for members or $8 for non-members of Tango Synergy. If you?re not a member, or if you need to renew, you can do so at the milonga. And what better time, because the following week on Australia Day (Tuesday 26th January), before the milonga, we?ll be holding our Annual General Meeting! All Synergy members are welcome to attend and vote. At the AGM, we?ll hear reports from all the office bearers including financial reports, and we?ll vote in a new committee to steer Synergy through 2010. Please contact us if you?d like to nominate yourself or anyone else for a role, or have any items to put on the agenda. Then on Saturday 30 January, SydneyTango is hosting another of our special milongas featuring live music from local orquesta tipica, Fuego Lento. We also welcome Martin Cohen from Tango Pasion as our DJ for the evening. It?s at Concord RSL from 8pm to 1am. And in February, we?re thrilled to be bringing you two exciting young teachers: Daniel Tuero from Buenos Aires, accompanied by Aja Fenn from UK / USA. I?m particularly looking forward to meeting Dani again, as he and his partner were my main teachers on my trip to Buenos Aires two years ago ? so I can personally vouch for his superb teaching. More details about him, as well as plenty of videos to enjoy, are on his website http://www.danieltuero.com.ar/. Dani and Aja will be performing at a number of milongas, so you can get to know them and their relaxed, yet technically precise style before their workshops on 26-28 February. And of course there will be discounts for Synergy members. Bookings will be opening soon so watch this space! > > Happy dancing, > Rachel > > On behalf of Tango Synergy Inc > http://www.tangosynergy.org > dance at tangosynergy.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This year we also took ownership of the SydneyTango website ? an invaluable free resource for the local community ? along with the SydneyTango milongas. It?s been a big exciting year, and in the coming year it shall undoubtedly keep growing! With Synergy?s Annual General Meeting upon us, I would like to be the first to lend my ongoing support to Tango Synergy by nominating Rachel Bond for the role of President this year. Over the last two years, under the leadership of myself and Rachel and with the support of Tango Synergy committee members, the association has become an integral part of the Sydney tango community. Rachel has worked constantly behind the scenes of this organisation: without her dedication, ongoing efforts, and passion for the community at large, Tango Synergy would not be what it is today. I urge all our members to come to the AGM, or if you?re not able to, send a proxy vote, lending your support to Rachel and the new committee members? and be part of the future of Tango Synergy. As for myself? it has been an exciting two years assisting Tango Synergy to grow. I will now be pursuing my passion for tango, by taking the next step and working professionally with Jenny Wood from Tango Encanto. For me this is a great opportunity to share my exploration of tango with others, and benefit from the learning that comes from teaching. I look forward to seeing the future of Tango Synergy and hope you will too. Sincerely Chris Condron Outgoing President, Tango Synergy Inc. I'd love to see all Synergy members grow in their Tango by taking the opportunity to work with these knowledgable, articulate, sensitive teachers. There are also a couple of nominations I'd like to make: First of all for the role of Vice President, I'd like to nominate Paul Warren. If you?re not a member, or if you need to renew, you can do so at the milonga. This coming Saturday 30 January, it?s time for the first SydneyTango milonga of 2010! As always, this special milonga features live music from local orquesta tipica, Fuego Lento. We also welcome Martin Cohen from Tango Pasion as our DJ for the evening. Martin is a knowledgable, experienced and respected DJ so we?re looking forward to hearing his playlist. He?ll be arranging his music chronologically, so if your preference is for older style music, be sure to arrive on time so you don?t miss out on your favourites! The milonga is at its usual venue, Concord RSL, from 8pm to 1am this Saturday, and costs just $15. And in February, we?re thrilled to be bringing you two exciting young teachers: Daniel Tuero from Buenos Aires, accompanied by Aja Fenn from UK / USA. Both Dani and Aja have their foundation in the traditional tango of Buenos Aires, and count many of the best-known tango teachers as their influences and inspiration, as they bring a new dynamic and fresh approach to dancing. More details about Dani, as well as plenty of videos to enjoy, are on his website http://www.danieltuero.com.ar/. Dani and Aja will be performing at a number of milongas, so you can get to know them and their relaxed, yet technically precise style before their workshops on 26-28 February. And of course there will be discounts for Synergy members, as well as early-bird specials, so take this opportunity to deepen your understanding and enjoyment of tango. Bookings will be opening soon - watch this space! > > Happy dancing, > Rachel > > On behalf of Tango Synergy Inc > http://www.tangosynergy.org > dance at tangosynergy.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... For very commendable reasons, Synergy has a clause barring tango teachers as members. Although I only occasionally teach in Brisbane and Byron, I felt it was probably best to not compromise the independence of Synergy by accepting the nomination. The extra good news is that the delightful and enthusiastic Penelope Arrow has has agreed to be nominated in my stead. And I'll still be on the sidelines giving my all to Synergy and tango in Sydney! Tuesday 16 February, 8-11.30pm Farsaci Restaurant, 198 - 200 Norton Street, Leichhardt In sad news, it?s become apparent that many dancers are taking advantage of our honesty system and not paying even the very small entry fee we ask for this milonga. This behaviour jeopardises the milonga for everyone. Remember, it?s free if you have a meal at the restaurant, not just a drink or dessert. Otherwise we ask for just $5 for members or $8 for non-members of Tango Synergy. Remember, that money goes straight to the restaurant to cover their costs in keeping it open for us. To make sure everyone does contribute, we?ll be asking you to pop the fee in the box on arrival so you don?t forget. It?s still the cheapest milonga in town, but it can only stay that way if everyone does the right thing. This will also help make a more even spread across the nights of the week where we can all dance. The change will happen on Wednesday 7th of July, two weeks away. All the rest is the same, milonga starts 8pm through 'til 11:30pm. One of the fantastic things about Sydney is that you can dance tango seven nights a week!! There are only a few cities around the world that have this kind of dedication and love of the dance to enable organisers and teachers to hold milongas each night. This is a testament to all of you who dance this most remarkable dance. We look forward to meeting you on the dance floor. Yours, The Synergy Team. Paul J.
